Any hints for playing Wild Arms xF?

So I just started Wild Arms xF. I read many reviews about the game and realize that it is hard and there is a lot of trial and error but does anyone that have played it have any hints that I should keep in mind while playing. I have been enjoying the game so far but have lost my first battle due to a very high level character. He just came in and bashed my main character in one hit and the battle was over right there.Again I have read many reviews about the game where they say it is challenging. That's what I'm looking for but if someone has hints for me to keep in mind that would be nice. Do not get into how the game sucks or that I shouldn't have bought it. I really only want people that have played the game and enjoyed it to leave comments.
