Sony blocking online play of used games. ...

http://consumerist.com/2010/02/sony-blocks-online-play-on-used-copies-of-psp-socom-game.htmlHow long until we see something like this cvoming into play on the PS3? Only a matter of time.Sony blocking online play of used games. ...
Think it's a great move in so far as stopping pirated copies working on line but as someone who likes to sell on completed games and will pick up a bargin from the used games section on occasion I would see that as a bit disappointing. What isn't clear from the article is whether multiple people can use the same code. i.e. I buy it new and use the code then sell it on - can they then use the code also. If that is the case then it won't affect the second hand market as long as people ''pass on the code'' as it were. Also I don't see how this will work as a concept if you buy the game on PSN. It would be reasonable to assume that a copy purchased on PSN would work on-line automatically but that then leads to the copies of the game on PSN and UMD being different.Sony blocking online play of used games. ...
It's only 1 code per PSN account, and once it's used thats it.But I'm all for it if it really stops hacking, and prevents pirated copies from being used online. So far so good with FTB3, but only time will tell in the long run..
Non-reusable code to play online? ON A CONSOLE!!!??? That flat out sucks. This spells bad things, I hope gamers make an uproar. That was always one of the things why console gaming was better than PC gaming. I'm from the PS3 forum BTW.

You understand this will prevent non-pirated copies from being used online on more than one PSP? And introduce a hassle.

Damn, first they botch SOCOM on the PS3 (apparently) and now they're botching the PSP SOCOM.
They said if i you bought a used copy, you had to buy a 20$ online code to get an account.
Which pretty much sums up to the price of the game new on the PSN store.I think that Sony has been great with us, they give us the most freedom in their consoles.. With the PS3we canuse almostany headset, any flashdrive to put almost anything in it (legally), while other consoles require you to buy specific -expensive- products.. their products. Besides, they always give us quality.. and I say that being a proud owner of a VAIO laptop (which rungs great), a Sony HDTV (HDNA!!), Sony bluetooth headset, PS3, PSP Go, etc. I think they're a great company, unfortunately, you can't be too nice to peope.. yeah, this isn'tgood for some of us but this is still business and Sony needs money to keep running. People have been stealing from them for a long time and they need to do something about it.. I support them.

Do you understand that there would be no difference in use if buying tangible media?Would you expect five, online enabled copies if you bought Socom FTB3 via UMD?Consider it a gift that for the price of one new game, you can put it on 5 different systems and play singleplayer as well as Ad Hoc.They didn't ''botch'' anything. You just want more of a 5 for 1 deal...
Lmao, stupid Sony. They come up with the least effective strategies. They might as well hire a hacker or something, it would work better since the pirates are always countering everything they do.
Dumb idea there is nothing wrong with buying used and as far as I am concerned this should be illegal for them to charge extra to play online.I jsut hope they put in big bold letters on the case ''MUSt PAY EXTRA TO PLAY ONLINE IF YOU BUY USED'' but of course they aren't going to and they are going to have a lot of unhappy customers.
see its people like the person who said im all for it, like that that make me mad, this is the united states , and i should be able to buy used games as long as i own the system , ,and should not have to hand sony 20 just to play socom on line, if every one elses is free, its messed up ,thats like microsoft saying , oh you get this free just because you paid 300 for the system but any one who pays 200 pays 50 a yr for xbox live,no thank you ,another reason why digital download is a waste of bandwith ,-you cant sell what you pay for ,instead its there regardless and what if you buy somthing that you dont like you cant even get a dime back ,same theory here a person who buys socom used or new , , dont like the game so the person behind he/she has to pay 20 dollars because a technicality such as that ,thats like a car sales man changing the odometer , and tells you its gotthis amount of miles on it even though it really has 2000 miles on it ,its a scam , hahah to the cows who bash ms for 50 a year for xbox live at least they are fair ,,every one pays not just the person who buys used, no one screwed ,

It's funny reading you non Go users complaining about this and Go users sitting back saying, ''well, this doesn't affect me.''Okay Okay, you do have a point, it is pretty selfish of Sony to do this.

Granted it would help if you were the user it was actually aimed at, but props for trying to comprehend the sentences all the same.Key words in his post are highlighted for your convenience, as they now are in mine.I think I'll take my chances, and wait for HIM to clarify just what he meant. But I stand by my original response. And don't worry, I'll refuse the burning urge to point out the irony of someone calling someone else illiterate, when they can barely string together a coherent sentence as it is.Aww shucks...
w/o reading the link, so what ur sayin if i buy Socom 3 used at gamestop i cant play online?
w/o reading the link, so what ur sayin if i buy Socom 3 used at gamestop i cant play online?
You can but if the code provided with the game was already used by the previous owner then you would have to buy the $19.99 voucher on the PSN to play online. If the used game you bought had a code that didn't get used yet then it will work for you and you will be lucky. That's the crazy part about it. But don't worry if you buy the game new, that's the major push for this is to force you to buy new.
