A problem with the visuals on my psp

Sometimes when I turn my PSP on, nothing comes up except for the color background. No date %26 time, battery, folders, etc. My PSP is version 4.01.A problem with the visuals on my psp
Has this only just started happening since you upgraded to a new version?A problem with the visuals on my psp
Stop using outdated firmware, for a start.
Actually, never mind. I got it fixed so please lock this now. Tnx :)

Yes! This is just what has been happening with me, it keeps going in and out o;like that, sometimes it works, sometimes not.

PSP GO is a disaster...anyone agree that ...

I think: OK, they made a psp go which makes it easier to travel around with a console....WAIT? so what the hell is the other psp's for?are they not here to let you have games on the travel? FULL UMD GAMES.OK, there are some full games on PSstore...but face it...you can download games to the other psp's aswell, the difference:THE DIFFERENCE:''Hey, let's make a new, slimmer psp and remove everything that makes it awesome...UMD....let's let people settle with demo's and pretty ass lame games from the PSstore...'' ma gadPSP GO is a disaster...anyone agree that ...
Mmmm, hyperbole; yeah, it's awful being stuck with lame games like FF7 and 8, GoW, Resistance, Daxter, and 200-300 othersPSP GO is a disaster...anyone agree that ...

hmm...I came to this thread expecting to see a little debate about to start over which was better PSP GO or the original PSPs. But after seeing what the OP had to say about it. This thread is doomed to fail, badly.
I own a PSP and I have to say, the PSP in general is a disaster.
Want to know why UMDs suck?1. They're so noisy2. Unless you use Data Install, UMD's load terribly.3. They're brittle4. They easily drain your PSP battery's remaining power5. Read my ''My PSP's UMD Drive got killed by ants!!!'' thread.
I stick with the 3000.
i like my go

2nd time i have noticed you bash psp in this psp forum. i know you hate your psp a lot, why not just burn it? it's ok, i think nintendo DS is a piece of crap, and i would not touch it with a stick, just like i would not touch something else with a stick that comes out from people's behind. if a free nintendo ds was given to me, i would donate it to a kid in need instead to see a smile in their face.
I disagree... I've owned both and I love the GO...
If PSP 4000 or go 2 had a hardrive and playable UMDs that will be perfect
EVERYBODY AGREES! What were they thinking?! Anyway, you're spot on.
EVERYBODY AGREES!
Apparently not...
I love my Go, I had a 1000 since its launch, and the Go made for a perfect transition for me; as I got to play all the UMD only games that I wanted to play that are not on the store. Also it fits easily in my pockets, while the original psp did not (usually just put it in my bag).

I've played on the 1000 model, and I had the 3000 model shortly before getting my Go. And I have to say that the Go is exactly what I had expected to be: a wonderfully convenient handheld capable of storing some of my favorite movies, games, and music, all into one slick portable package! And with having all that in a single device with no plastic cases or UMD's required, made it pretty ideal in my book!
Dude you nailed it, those are the exact reasons why the PSP Go sucks.
Well for someone like me I just can't afford it. I can't afford to pay full price for every game I want. And I think it sucks that I can't trade my games back in when I'm done. It's just way too much money, and yeah. I mean really, I'd rather pay 28 for a used UMD, or even 40 for it new, than 50 for a download
^ ?I don't even think there's a single game on the PSP PSN thats $50

Any good console-to-PSP ports out there? ...

I have Tekken 6, it's fun but bad as a port since it lacks stuff that the PS3 version has and I also have F%26F Tokyo Drift, it's almost a perfect port of the PS2 version but framerate is bad and it's just to glitchy. I do remember someone mentioneda PS2 JRPG ported to the PSP with no problem at all, but I forgot that game's name...Any good console-to-PSP ports out there? ...

Persona 3 Portable comes out in July :D Can't wait for it. As for other ports, maybe try the Disgaea games.
Most of the extreme-sport games are great like Tony Hawk and the ATV series are good.On a side note: I thought your PSP broke...
It's fixed now, the UMD Drive got replaced.
Disgaea was the successful port showcasing great graphics which were originally on the ps2.
If you like fighting games, then the port of Def Jam will be right up your ally! Haven't played it myself, but I heard it still retains the brutal and exciting fight mechanics from the original. Plus it's only 10 dollars on PSN! :D
I guess you can consider GTA: VCS a port.
The Warriors is a pretty good PS2 port.
The Warriors is a pretty good PS2 port.
I can vouch for this pick. That game is one of the best beat 'em ups since Final Fight!
Not really a port exactly, but Ace Combat X (a psp exclusive) feels like a Ps2 Ace combat (4, 5, Zero).and I think StarWars: Force Unleashed is a good port. The ps3 version is way better, but i got it for the psp for $5 the other day (clearance at Target).also, GTA Vice City Stories feels alot like GTA Vice City on the ps2. It's not exactly a port (actually VCS was ported to ps2), but it's close, like Ace Combat X.Army of Two is NOT a good port however, the demo stinks, and the review says its pretty bad.

Thinking about selling my PSP Go?

I got it for christmas. I have really only played it for about a wekk after I got it and haven't touched it fro a month. The only game I am looking forward to is Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. I msinly used it for the old PS1 classics which can be played on my PS3 as well. Is it worth keeping for the only game I am playing on it now (Final Fantasy Dissedea).Thinking about selling my PSP Go?
Why are you asking us; isn't that entirely up to you?Thinking about selling my PSP Go?
what about persona 3 portable and mgs peace walker? keep it for your on the go needs.
The only games that interest me for the future are MGS Peace walker and KH: Birth By Sleep.
I always regret selling video games/systems.

I don't really care. My 3000 is fine.Have you ever dream of the perfect PSP
Mine is almost dreamy, GOW PSP slim with 32GB memory stick (photofast CR-5400 + 2 16GB microsds)

Would change the color for an Ice silver, cause mine seems cheaper because of being plain red without any transparent coat.

Either that or a Go with all the features mine has
The perfect PSP? A free one.
Mine would probably be a larger model of the GO with more comfortable controls, more power, a 2nd analog, and no UMD drive. It would also have COMPLETE backwards compatibility.
I think the PSP is incredible already, but there's that empty space on the right that just glares at you and says ''EFF YOU MAN YOU AREN'T GETTING A 2nd ANALOG STICK HERE SO **** OFF''. And it's that sole reason why I don't have one. also i'm broke. ha.

How could it be backward compatible if there's no UMD drive?
Im happy with the way it is, next gen PSP will prob change and make it better but for the time being ill live with what i have.

Use Media Go, like they said before, it's easier to backup your games, movies, etc. It's best to buy through Media Go too, the download times are a bit fast than that of regular wireless.

    The Minis Review Thread!!!

Yo Peoples! If you have purchased a mini off PSN, please post a mini-review here. Give a brief description of gameplay and other important information about the game, and whether or not it was worth the cash... there are a ton of these up, and for the most part there is no information about any of them in terms of screen shots or decent descriptions of gameplay. The mini section reminds me of buying Atari 2600 carts from reading the description on the box and checking out cover art (which were misleading, to say the least, in a lot of cases).Do your fellow PSP fans a solid, and talk about what you've gotten!:DThe Minis Review Thread!!!
Hero of Sparta: 8/10, a decent god of war clone with some technical weird technical issues, such as audio bugs and glitches that sometimes force you to restart levels.Blast-Off!: 7/10, challenging little time waster, but not much depth or lasting value, you should definately pick this one up, however, as it's only $2.99 and the price is well worth it for what you get.Kahoots: 9/10, my favorite PSP Mini so far, this game packs tons of content in it, has a great style, and extremely satisfying puzzles. Plus, the game's theme music is THE SH*T, seriously, I humm it all the time, it is stuck in my head. The Minis Review Thread!!!
Fieldrunners- 8.5/10Gameplay: Your typical tower defense game, but it is very well done and accessible for players of a wide skill range.Graphics: Looks good to me. :P The graphics are more than suitable for a game of this type, and are very crisp and clean.Price: For 6.99, it's a little pricey compared to other Minis, but for what you're getting, it seems to be worth it.(Let me know if there's any questions you have on this, I'll be glad to attempt to answer them)
I got ''Savage Moon'' which doesn't quite qualify as a mini, but it's an exclusiveandI haven't seen a lot of people talk about it.It's Tower Defense, with a little galactic conquest thrown in for good measure. Unlike a lot of other TD games I've played, this one gives you a map of planets (called ''lmoons'') and your job is to design a strategy for protecting your mining interests in order to keep the planet out of the slimy hands of the Incectolytes - Really big, nasty BUGS. The more lmoons you hold, the more money you have to blow on your next invasion... it's a nice little perk system and strategy element which elevates the title above it's mindless flash game roots. The game will give you default settings for an invasion if you're unsure how much it'll take to bring an lmoon under your iron-fist control, and eventually if you're good, you can throw a rediculous amount of money at a completely inane war over natural resources...... just like the good ol' USA...Starting maps feature a tutorial on how to allocate resources for a drop (protection of a mining facility), how to deal with advancing your tech trees (making bigger and badder guns and blockades, etc.) and dealing with the Incectolyte problem on the ground and in the air... like a big ol' exterminator with GUNS. Really, really big GUNS. Menu systems work very well for selecting your defenses and become second nature very quickly. I was kind of worried about playing a TD game on a handheld without a mouse and the control issues, but they have pulled it off very nicely on this title.Graphics, sound, and an excellent zooming in-or-out camera via the shoulder buttons makes getting around the map and placing your defenses a breeze... the only minor criticism I have about the game is the load times, but they're not that long, it's just that I'm old and going to die someday so every little second counts...:lol:What is the nature of ''Blast Off!''? How would you describe the gameplay or what would you say it resembles?Keep 'em coming, folks... let's get a nice pool of information bubbling here!
:What is the nature of ''Blast Off!''? How would you describe the gameplay or what would you say it resembles?
It's a game in which you control a space ship and try to collect all of the spacemen on the screen, you can look up all of the titles I listed on YouTube.
Ill make this short:Blast off--9/10Echoes--7/10Fieldrunners--8.5/10Hero of Sparta--5/10And for good measure ill add Pinball Heroes at 7/10
Field Runners - 8/10Not a bad tower defense game, but its pretty basic stuff. I liked the cartoony graphics though and it was a good challenge at some parts.

Yes... in looking at gameplay of ''Dracula'' on the youtubes, it looks like a Goth ''Robotron'' where you kill waves of a given monster...
it's a fun game on my iphone. not sure how good the controls are on psp though. the music rocks. and i believe i made a thread about this game monthsssssss ago, when it was first announced. did not end up buying it in the end for the psp.
I like this thread. I've been curious about the minis but haven't really read any reviews on them.
I agree, great thread! I haven't purchased any of the mini's yet, but plan on some time. Now I can refer to this thread for some recommendations.
I picked up ''Blast Off!'' tonight after reading some of the comments here and looking at a bit of footage on the youtubes, I've spent about 20 minutes clearing most of the first set of puzzles... essentially what i would say this game is, is a synthesis between Atari's ''Lunar Lander'' with a little old-school ''Space Wars'' thrown in. You start with your ship on a planetoid, and several little astronauts spinning in space in some sort of pattern or lay-out, and you blast off (hence the name - there are no guns) and have to navigate various gravity fields and other planets of varying size and gravitational effect with your boosters, and you have limited fuel to get your run completed picking up as many astronauts as you can before heading for the warp gate - a finish line, basically. The layouts and gravities become more and more complicated as you go along, and various stars are awarded for numbers of rescues, score bonuses given for unused fuel and oxygen (time)... the game keeps the top five scores for each level, and there is a target high score which awards something else but I haven't been able to beat those times yet, so I don't know off hand what they are.The game has great physics, simple yet nice lighting and particle effects, and a trippy dreamy soundtrack that oozes into your head and stays awhile... I'm LOVIN' this one, and it's only $2.99. I can only imagine when I get the ''Insane'' set of puzzles unlocked!Highly recommended!~

Hi guys I recently purchased a PSP 3000 and am enjoying the Jeanne D'arc game. Are there any other good SRPG that you would recommend?I know that there is the Disgea series but I played the first one on the PS2 and just didn't like the humour or quirky characters.I've been away from the PSP scene for quite some time so I have probably missed some good releases.SRPG Similar to Jeanne D'arc
Try Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. Amazing SRPG.SRPG Similar to Jeanne D'arc
Both of these are great games. I'd say anyone who enjoys SRPGs should check them out.Final fantasy TacticsWild Arms Xf ----this one is pretty challengingalso Valkyria Chronicles 2 is coming out some time this year. I'm not sure when, but I think it's sooner rather than latter.
i was in the same position as you, i got jeanne d'arc and loved it then craved more, but in my opinion nothing really topped it for srpg's for the psp.
Try Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. Amazing SRPG.
Pretty much this. Or wait for Valkyria Chronicles 2 to come out.

Did anyone find FF war of the lions as annoying as i did? I hated how the camera changed soo much that it made it really hard to know which button meant which direction. For me that is the weakest FF psp game in terms of controls, plus the rpg elements werent there for me. that said i gave up on it reasonably early. For SRPG i would reccomend Wild ArmsAB448

I did find camera and controls a bit annoying, yes. And it's kinda too hard at first, unless you do a lot of those unexciting griding missions. But the great story makes up for all that, in my opinion.

Maybe they weren't the elements that you were looking for but I sure had a great time leveling up my characters to get different job classes. I was constantly getting new gear to equip my characters with. I'm not dogging you for saying that, I'm just giving my opinion. Though, the camera does kind of suck, that's really the only complaint I have with the game...that I can remember.

The story and character building doesn't get going until after you get through the prologue; which is quite long. If you didn't get passed that then you quit, too early.
Ok from what i have read i guess i never went past the prolouge lol. But seriously i wasted about half of my time on it trying to move in the right direction.

    AB448
Try Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. I'm still playing it now even though I have the game for more than a year. I finished the PSOne version twice and finished it again on the PSP but I'm still playing it. I just hope it had a new game plus mode. The only thing I can't try on the game is the ad-hoc rendezvous and melee mode. I just can't find anyone to play with.

Now I have to buy Jeanne D'Arc because of this thread.
There is a bunch of them and if you like the strategy Genre the Age Of Empire are all outstanding
metal gear acid and final fantasy tactics
Dont let the reviews fool you. There are only two srpgs that I remembe well due to their awesomeness. Jean d'arc which activated my love of those types of games and Wild arms xf. Gamespot may have given it a five rating but other reviewers give it much better reviews. Be ready for a stiff challenge but if you beat any of the arenas on jean 'arc you will be ok. Wild arms xf is a better developed story then final fantasy tactics and will keep you alot more interested. The characters are much more fleshed out and the japanese voice acting is incredible. Im going to take alot of flak for this opinion but I personally did not enjoy tactics as much. I completed it but i did not like all the farming I had to do and I felt that the hero characters made all my other characters obsolete. The stratagy in wild arms is much more diverse and the classes are easier to understand but are also more complex in other ways. Its an amazing game and for 14 dollars you will not be unhappy. Take my review to heart as I have spent just as much time of jean d'arc as wild arms. Approx 60 hours

    Armored Core: Silent Line

Is it worth buying? I have never owned a Armored Core game before (for consoles or portable) and they've always kinda interested me but not enough until this one.Armored Core: Silent Line
YES!!!! Yes yes yes yes yes yes a million times hell yes!Armored Core: Silent Line
It depends on whether or not you like games with a heavy focus on customization, if so, yeah, if not, not really.
No. It really isnt that fun. You could spend your money else where and have much more fun

Xenogears should be a PSone Classic.

Agree? Let's make it happen.Xenogears should be a PSone Classic.
I don't why it isn't. It os probably Square's best title along side with Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy Tactics. Plus it is a PSone classic in Japan (been on PSN for almost a year now).Xenogears should be a PSone Classic.

i have allways loved xenogears i looked at evry video store where i lived for 7 months trying to find a copy back in late 1998 start of 99 before it was released as a greatest hit for ps one would love to download to off psn and playstation store for psp playstation 3
I've got the game on PS One, but would love it if it was available in the Playstation Store. It is my favorite game of all-time, and really want to be able to play it anywhere.
I've heard so many great things about Xenogears, I'd love to get my hands on it. Finding a copy on eBay seems like a far too expensive venture.
Well it is. In Japan, but for the US? Yes, I wonder what's taking them so long to do this.
Disagree...Xenosaga is one game I want to see make-over port. (kind of like Persona 3 port)Due to PS1 limitation, the graphics were very muddy. Cleaning that up would be nice.and most importantly... Xenogear was released in incomplete form. I want a port to PSP version with upgrades, and completed form of the game.

Maybe they are doing that as we speak, but I wouldn't get my hopes up about it.
im with you buddy...lets do it...and while we're at it lets get Final Fantasy 8 and 9 uo there
I'd like for FFVIII to hit the PSN Store simply because I was never able to finish it due to a faulty third disc, and I'd absolutely love FFIX to show up there sometime soon. It's my favorite of the Final Fantasy series.
final fantasy series should be available in PSP.. just like the Tales series
    yeah why not??:);)
Agree? Let's make it happen.
Can we please? I loved Xenosaga and I've heard great things about this game. I've always wanted to play this but don't feel like shelling out that much to buy it on ebay. I saw it on the Japanese PS Store and considering buying it, but then I rembered I don't know Japanese :?
I wouldn't mind it at all. I don't think my PS1 copy works anymore...
For your Square PS one fix, check out www.estarland.com. They've Chrono Chross, FFVIII, FFIX, FFOrigins (I%26II), FFChronicles (IV%26ChronoTrigger), and FFAnthology (V%26VI)........Brand Freakin New.16.95+ship :DThey had Xenogears about a year ago....and FFTactics. Sorry :(
I don't think a remake will be made . . .It will be just the same xenogears we played on PSone . . .The original xenogears team has been banished from squaresoft (square-enix now), and then joined Namco which released the xenosaga series . . .So, we wont get the ''real'' xenogears (xenosaga 5)anytime soon . . . (unless there's miracle)
A remake would be nice. Lets get those Gears in better graphics!
You can play it right now on your PSP if you really wanted to =P

ok so which psp games have like good quality videos that tell a good story.. like god of war, its story is good and the videos in the game have quite good graphics... any suggestions?games with good cutscenes and story
hmmm good question from what i remember and what i have beaten id say both syphonfilter games had decent cut-scenes, jeanne d'arc had anime and in game cutscenes i enjoyed, both star ocean games have anime cut-scenes but the rest is more spoken dialogue yet really good storyand then there is crisis core which has stunning cutscenes and lots too. Ace combat X has avery good storyand some cutscenes, didnt expect a rich story that from a flying game.games with good cutscenes and story
    Crisis Core I guess.
The re-hash of ''Final Fantasy'' (the first one ever) is a great game, with completely overhauled graphics, cut scenes, and ''same old great gameplay'' as the box stressed... It's really an upgrade for sure. Also in the RPG line, ''Lunar: Silver Star Harmony'' is coming next month to US shores and looks to also be nostagically wonderful... ''Silent Hill: Origins'', ''Silent Hill: Shattered Memories'', all of the ''Resident Evil'' games available off PSN, The ''Final Fantasy'' PSOne games, etc. etc. etc. There's a TON of games which fit this description... what genre are you most prone to play?
Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core will fit you fine.
    Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
Crisis Core, of course. Jak %26 Daxter IV has lots of cut-scenes.
FF7 Crisis Core, but I suggest you get and finish the original FF7 first before playing Crisis Core.
    none other than crisis core
well, any thing i guess. i played final fantasy crises core, and although the graphics were amazing, i found the gameplay quite boring..like all u had to do was walk and press x to hit, how boring....any ways, the generes im looking for, well, pretty much anything will do... and thanks for the suggestions..

Should i get a PSP? 3000 or Go?

Games i'm looking for are mostly RPGs, especially dissidia and crisis core.I'm not sure if i should get a PSP tho :/Should i get a PSP? 3000 or Go?
PSP 3000 I guess. PSP Go is really sucks.Should i get a PSP? 3000 or Go?
    'Go' for the 3000 one.
definately get the PSP 3000... Much cheaper then the GO and can do much more.
Just wait for the price drop on the GO which should be soon or around E3But if you can't wait or want a hard copy of the game then the 3000
I was just thinking, what if the 4000(if it ever happens), is also UMDless. I say go for the 3000. I've been wanting to pick up a psp for awhile now, I may cave in today.
get the 3000, the psp go is an insult to gamers. The games are priced at full retail price even though its download. They shouldve lowered the price by at least 15$ of all new games since they cut out the middle men entirely. Greedy corporations just trying to increase their profit margins, while giving people less. Also the psp go has a smaller screen size. The only good thing about the go is the 16 gb built in flash memory, but the regular psp supports up to that much via MS Duo memory sticks. The psp 3000 is also alot cheaper than the go. Its around 150 i think plus u get a game or two with it. The go is more than 230$....In the end though there is no difference b/w the two in terms of graphics or anything else, the psp go is actually worse in features.
    3000
    psp 3000 is better imo
PSP 3000. Better features and not that big to justify the buy of a PSPgo.
    PSP 3000 of course.
EASY, get the 3000.Go to BESTBUY and try them both out. I think the Go feels akward. and why pay more for the console and the games if the games play and LOOK exactly the same!
Games i'm looking for are mostly RPGs, especially dissidia and crisis core.I'm not sure if i should get a PSP tho :/
get a 3000 'coz crisis core is only available on UMD
    3000, if you want UMD

    Go, if you want digital.

Most RPGS already released as UMDs.

I really love the psp. get the psp 3000 as what everyone says. the handheld system has really come along way. the graphics on the psp are really good too. its really a good time to be a psp owner right now, alot of good games coming. i am a new psp owner and i am having alot of fun.
Get the PSP 3000. PSN charge you too much on somegames %26 u can get preowned games from much cheaper but you can't in the psp go
psp 3000 deffinately, the thing about psp go is the games can only be put onto 5 systems so if you have bad luck with psps and it happens to break alot which is unlikely then you have lost the game. but whereas for the UMD's you will always have them
Games i'm looking for are mostly RPGs, especially dissidia and crisis core.I'm not sure if i should get a PSP tho :/
3000 by far for UMDs.
Depends on your lifestyle.. I got the Go and I love it.I used to own the 2000 (very similar to the 3000)and the systems serve almost the same function. However, I can't afford to be walking around with the 2000 in my pocket, unless you can tell me a way to fit that and my cellphone, pager (work), huge keychain, and wallet on my jeans all at the same time. I think the Go has its flaws, but it sill is a good system on its own. Remember that the whole point of the 'portable' deal is to take it with you everywhere you GO. I think (my opinion), that most people that want a bigger screen either play at home or don't take their PSP everywhere they go (or they don't have to carry as much stuff around). Another thing I hear a lot is the battery (you can't change it on your own).. which honestly, I've never had to change a rechargeable battery of any king of electronic (or other) equipment I've ever owned.. people just complain about that because of certain things they do with their PSP.So yeah.. the Go works for me.

    Worth a buy?

I was just wondering if the PSP would be a decent purchase at this stage, it's been awhile since I've had one...how is the catalog looking nowadays?...Worth a buy?
I was just wondering if the PSP would be a decent purchase at this stage, it's been awhile since I've had one...how is the catalog looking nowadays?...
I definately think its worth it.Worth a buy?
Go check out the PSP section of GS. Check out new releases and the top games.
Yeah its very nice. If you really want one go for it. But look at the game section first.
It's a lot more worth it then, say, a DS, just buy a 3000, not a Go.
The games catalog on the psp isn't for everybody. There's a quiet a few good games, but it's also lacking variety too. If you like action games, and sony IP (resistance, LBP, God of War, ect) then you'll have quiet a few games to choose from. If you're looking for other types of games (puzzle, strategy, ect) then you've got some slim pickings. Still you can find a psp on dell.com for $140 pretty often, and add a 4gig memory card for $30, and you've got a handy little media player for $170 which is well worth it in my opinion. So if you have a lot of videos on your pc your just an app away from putting them on your psp.One other thing I might mention is that nobody has a clue when the psp2 is coming out. It could be a year, or it could be 5 years. So planning around the next model is a gamble either way.
I agree, check out the games available on the PSP and see whats to your liking, I was in the same dilemma as u were a few months back, but saw that it had some excellent titles i was interested in (fan of god of war, love shooters-resistance fan of Castlevania Dracula X chronicles, lil big plDo some net). Do some research on which system ya want to invest in PSP 3000 SLIM, PSP Go (I suggest the slim tho' psp go's a ripoff) Sometimes they even have good deals on ebay if you like to bid or want an older PSP model. Some sell them at a cheaper price-patience and lots of searching tho. gl!

Advice for a Newbie to the PSP?

We've all been newbs before (and I'm still a relative newb as I type this) and so I was wondering...

For those of you who have been around the proverbial block in regards to owning and using a PSP - for gaming, multimedia, whatever - I was wondering what sorts of practical advice you'd give to a newbie.

Are there any bits of advice or tips or hints or 'OMFG Don't Forget About This!' moments that you wish you had known when you were a new owner?

Are there things that you see newbies or even non-newbies do that make you go 'Oh no, not AGAIN!'? (And no, posting multiple topic threads on the same topic doesn't count. ;))

Basically, if you have some knowledge you'd like to share that you think would be useful for newbies (and even non-newbies alike), please do.

    ----------

Even though I'm still pretty new to it all, I'll post something:

Please be careful when buying Memory Sticks off of eBay and Amazon! You'll never know when you might be buying a Sony produce only to later realize that it's a knock-off and either won't work properly with your unit or will corrupt your data.Advice for a Newbie to the PSP?
Something I would have liked to be told earlier was to not leave the psp on standby for long periods of time. It is not good for the battery. Best to save and then turn it off completely.Advice for a Newbie to the PSP?
-Remember too turn off your psp..i have a habit of leaving my psp on after playing a game and when i come back to take my psp with me the battery is all gone..

-Never put your psp in ur pocket while doing other activites i have done this many times one time in 2006 i was skateboarding i tripped and landed on my psp and it broked...
Back up your saves and PSN video purchases. Saves aren't replacable, and PSN video downloads can only be done so just once. You'll thank me for this later.Oh, and to do that, just download Media Go, connect the PSP to your computer via USB, and you should know what to do from there.
    create a playstation network account
BACK UP YOUR SAVES AND PURCHASES WITH MEDIA GO!!!Save yourself the anguish i have already felt at a corrupt file!:D
Save up some money and get a 4-16gb memory stick. The internet browser for PSP can load pictures (remember this one, it's really important lol).If you intend to listen to podcasts on your PSP, remember to save them to your PSP, live streaming doesn't work very well on the PSP.Oh, and remember, the WLAN switch is physically ON the PSP, it's not a feature accessed inside of it (that took me about 1-3 weeks to figure out hahaha).
Read reviews and keep buying games for your PSP. Many dudes dont know what is going with the PSP because they never check up with PSP news and then they come with silly arguments like ''there aint no games for the PSP''. Keep your PSP gaming alive, that is my practical advise.
Thanks for all of the advice and tips everyone! :D If anyone has further advice, this thread is all ears! :)

Personally, I took the backing up advice to heart and last night, backed up all my gave saves.

    ---

For myself, with all the functionality that's in the PSP, there were a lot of features that I didn't discover until after I had poked around it for a bit. The physical location of the WLAN (conveniently covered up when my PSP is in its case), the 'hold' functionality, the two different ways to adjust sound settings, etc.

    More advice:

Make sure you read up on associating and disassociating your PSP with your PSN account and figure out the process you need to go through if you want to change PSPs and switch your PSN account over to the new one.

I'm still not too sure on that one myself. :?

I'm a newish PSP owner and I've collected a few old gems in addition to some new games at my local game store and it definitely helps keep my PSP gaming going. If something new isn't catching my fancy, then there's some older stuff to poke around with, too. :)

Don't be afraid to buy from the bargain bin now and again! Sometimes you can find a few goodies and don't be afraid to ask for game recs and make sure you make use of the demos available to you!
[This message was deleted at the request of a moderator or administrator]
In addition to buying new games like Army of two ( because I loved the demo ) I just bought Wipeout and Secret Agent Clank for $9.50 / 6.50 Euro each. I love the bargain bin ;).
The PSP's gaming library is small, and has very few excellent games. Never leave the headphones in the headphone jack, and put them in a bag or your pocket. The headphone jack can get knocked out of place.
1 my first tip is dont buy the digital games from the PSN that are available on umd. They are WAY too expensive. You can find used Psp games on UMD for much cheaper! (if u dont have a pspGo of course). and not to mention, u can let friends borrow or sell umd games, but not digital downloads.2 another word of advice, is dont expect much online-multiplayer. Most psp games are 1 player or just local multiplayer. I personally dont have any friends that have a psp, so i've never played multiplayer on it. 3 get a good screen protector and case asap. you'll be surprised how fast your psp will get scratches, smudges, etc if you dont have a way to keep it clean and safe4 internet browsing is ok, but nothing special5. get a big (like at least 8gb) memory stick. doesnt have to be sony, doesnt have to be new.6. get media go for your pc. download game demos, themes, videos etc, from the psn on there. then transfer what you need over to your psp.7. get a 2nd account on the psn in a different region(s). you'd be surprised at the number of games that arent on all regions of the psn. sometimes i get demos from the UK store that arent on the US store. (if u need instrutions on how to use both accounts message me, its not too hard)
    hope that helps! enjoy!
Concerning the UMD games- be careful when taking it out of the game package since it may crack the plastic case surronding the disc because of those clingy hooks. I recently bought Daxter at gamestop, was taking it out of the package when all of a sudden the plastic on my umd sick cracked. Sony really should've made a better choice in designing thier game cases.....

    PSP 3000 I guess.
Ugh, another PSP vs PSP thread... -_-
i like 1000 over the 2000 cause it felt cheap. never tried 3000 or go. thought about getting one or the other maybe both.
For me PSP 1000 and 2000 for various reasons, the 3000 and GO felt like a unnecessary upgrade.
one day i got greedy and upgraded a 2000 to a 3000. Wow the 3000 looks way better than the 2000. And 2000 looks better than 1000.havent touched a go yet.
My friend has the 1000, and it feels bulky and heavy, while I have a 2000 and it's really light. The 1000 just feels like if it would drop, it wouldn't break as easily as the 2000, just more well built. I haven't used a 3000, and a GO... >.>
well I prefer the PSP 1000 since they are more durable, (although a drawback is they are heavier....), they don't feel like you are holding a flat rounded piece of plastic (i tried out my friends 3000 and that thing hardly has side curves on the back i guess to cut back the heft issues...) and is also harder to find. Plus it's the original!

Crap, I was afraid of thisWith Sega threatening fans of the series I had hoped the region that bought the first installment the most would show up when the second was released, instead they stayed home.To not even pull in half of the audience of the first one is bad news, now there's two reasons1. There's just not enough support for the title and that's too bad because it's great2. People were turned off by Sega's threats over the past year and have decided to move onEither way this is very bad news for fans of the franchiseI just hope Sega doesn't think twice about releasing it globallyWho knows, maybe there's hope and the second week will see an upswing, if it follows the same path as it's predecessor I don't see Sega keeping it alive
I haven't even played VC 1 yet but I have it in my collection, I know I'm naughtly lol.
i bought PSP just for this game
I'm pretty excited for this game. Of course I'd rather have the sequel on the PS3, but I'm such a huge fan of the series I'll play it on anything. I should buy an import copy to support the game. Easy enough for me to get it.
Not buying it, it looks like sh*te from what I've seen of it, plus I'll have to pay a ton of money to import it.

I've played the demo, I still need to finish the first game before picking up the sequel.
    I'll probably get it.
I really loved the first one for a while. The gameplay was interesting (if a bit glacial in pace), and the the art and anime-style storytelling was nice... but the characters didn't flesh out much, and the the story didn't go anywhere interesting... it was like watching a really slow and boring anime. I hope this one has a better story and characters... or at least ones that aren't just a collection of anime cliché–Ÿ.
From examiner.comValkyria Chronicles is one of the best exclusive games on the Playstation 3. For that reason, many fans were upset when Sega announced that the sequel will be a PSP exclusive. So how did Valkyria Chronicles 2 end up fairing against the first game in terms of sales? Here is the first-week sales data in Japan for both titles according to Media Create: Valkyria Chronicles PS3 - 77,267 copies sold
Valkyria Chronicles 2 PSP - 94,444 copies sold Keep in mind that Media Create only tracks retail sales, so the Valkyria Chronicles 2 data does not include digital copies bought and downloaded from the Playstation Store. It should also be noted that Valkyria Chronicles was released early on the lifespan of the Playstation 3 while Valkyria Chronicles 2 launched on the more numerous PSP system (at least in Japan). Furthermore, the sequel also benefited from the brand establishment the first title didn't have. Valkyria Chronicles 2 is slated for a summer release in North America.

Looking at their sale in the first week, nothing great compare to FF XIII.

No wonder SEGA always makes a fuss about not shipping their games to another region. Yakuza games are one of the best selling games in Japan but its sale here is just awful. :(

I know, WTF the japanese verison looks like a BAMF. U.S verison looks like they took a jepg from the demo and attached it to a microsoft word document.
I bought a copy a couple days ago and the game is quite awesome. Plays just like its PS3 predeccesor, but just on a smaller scale. Maps have to be broken into smaller areas.

I don't understand how to use the save file. When going into a game I have the choice to either go with ''New Game'' or ''Load Game''. If I Load Game and pick an old save file I can't start a new game with it... I can only see my old score in the records. I have tried presssing every key a hundred times! If I select ''New Game'' I can easily start and play a game, but when I save it I overwrite my old records. So how the heck do I keep a running set of records?Metal Slug Anthology Help

    long haul flight

Hey guys, I'm off to Canada next week and that's a good 12 hours of travel, great. At least I'll have my PSP!
Well I think I need another game to amuse me if theirs a crappy in flight film on or for the hours in the car. Can anyone suggest any? My favourite games at the moment are assassins creed 2 and modern warfare 2.
But the worst thing about the PSP is the lack of a second joystick, which is why I don't really like shooting games on it, I'm not really into sports or puzzlers :/.

Can anyone recommend any games with decent controls, storyline and enjoyment. I don't really mind the length of the game, as long as it's fun I don't care! :P

God of War: Chains of OlympusThe WarriorsStar Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron.
    Racing: Burnout or wipeout games.
    Action: God of War: CoO
    Flight Combat: Ace Combat Zero
Side Scrolling Action: Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero? (If you download it, it's very expensive online.)
    Medal of honer Heroes 2
Now, I know you said you didn't care about the length of the game, but if you're going on a 12 hour trip, don't purchase God of War with the intention of playing it most of the way. Unless you don't mind playing through the story mode 6 times, it won't entertain you for 12 hours, seeing as the story doesn't last 3 hours.

  • Constant Interruption

    Hey, first post...

I was hoping I could get some help with my PSP. It works fine but it has one constant interruptive problem that effects almost every UMD I play. When you press the ''Start'' button on the PSP, a menu comes up asking if you want to exit the game or video, but every few seconds this menu comes up. It doesn't even pause the game I'm playing, it just comes up...alot. I got the PSP in 2008 [The same day Crisis Core came out], so it shouldn't be getting old...

Sorry if this isn't in the right forum.Constant Interruption
From my experience it appears that soft-buttons-keyboard inside your psp unit went broken(water condensation possibly causes glitching) it could be fixed so the cleaning-contact might help, otherwise I'd replace it with a new one., it's a cheap repair, anyway.
You know that the game is available on the PSN, right?
I was about to post that.

Anyway, the game was so-so imo; gameplay was pretty dull, didn't really find the story interesting, and the dialog was terrible. Graphics were ok, classic RPG art style. Overall, I was pretty disappointed in the game, didn't even finish it (although from what I've read on the board, the final boss battle is extremely difficult/tedious and ends on a major cliff hanger, if that motivates you to get it).
i DLed it off of PSN and was happy i did. there is nothing new about the game really but i am glad this is classic JRPG game play with very nice visuals and sound. i do however find it funny how much Spinnel's....uh hum....shake so vigorously during the battle scenes.

    Sudden battery problem... Help?

So I bought a PSP 3000 about 5 or 6 months ago... it's never given me any problems, and also hasn't seen a huge amount of use (and definetly NO abuse or rough handling)... I last played it back in December (at which point my girlfriend bought me a PS3 for Christmas), and I havn't used it again until now...So I pull it out of it's case, go to turn it on, and it won't turn on... I assume I must have killed the battery last time I played it, so I plugged it in and just out of my own curiousity, went into the battery info to see if it had any charge... at this point I realized there's 0% charge, and I say tom myself ''well that's odd... it should atleast say like 1% since I plugged it in...''.. Either way, i waited about 20 minutes and came back to it, and checked again... It STILL said 0%... So at this point I figured it must just not know what it's talking about, and unplugged the charger, only to have the PSP instantly turn off...At this point I'm getting a little frustrated, and tried taking th battery out and putting it back in, but to no positve results... so today I went out and picked up a new battery for it, I returned home, and tried it in the PSP... and once again, it will nto turn on, nor will it charge when it's plugged in...Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone has run into this issue before and knows a way around it or what, or if the system is just faulty... Although I can't really see how the system could all of a sudden just stop working with a battery... And like I said, it has never gievn me a problem before, and has never seen any rough handling..Sudden battery problem... Help?
If you bought the psp 5 or 6 months ago then you should call Sony. It's definitely still under warrenty.Sudden battery problem... Help?
Is your battery lose at all? I got a psp last week for my b-day and it would die if you set it down because the battery was lose, I fixed it by shoveing a small peice of paper next to the battery.

  • I'm confused PSP Go or PSP 3000

hi guys i want a psp so bad so should i wait till october or just buy me a psp 3000 in another way does the PSP go worth the waiting or notI'm confused PSP Go or PSP 3000
I think it hinges entirely on whether you are happy for ''download only'' games on the PSP Go or whether you would rather buy UMD's. To me I'm not convinced about entirely digital games - if my PSP breaks now I still have all the UMD's and my memory stick with game saves and I can just put them in a new PSP. With the Go that won't be an option. Unless Sony allow the downloading of games from the Go to a PC/external memory stick for back up purposes, but I can see that causing all sorts of ''copying'' issues so bet they don't!!I'm confused PSP Go or PSP 3000
Go comes with 16gigs of memory--that's all the advantage it holds, imho. Smaller screen--ick. Not to mention the 3000 (not the newer bundled ones) now has access to all ''grey'' (and black, lol) area features which can't be elaborated here. If you're willing to buy a decent capacity memory card there is no reason to wait imho. Especially if you're really impatient for it.
I really don't see anything in the psp go that makes it worth $80 more than the 3000, and w/ dell selling the 2000 for $120 I can't understand why anybody who doesn't have a psp would ever choose the Go.W/ the 3000 you'd have the choice to buy umd's, or buy from the PSN store. If you buy the go you'll be stuck w/ the store. Also keep this in mind that games on the PSN store will rarely go on sale, or clearance so if you buy your games on sale (or even used) that you're out of luck w/ the psp go.
    Get a 3000.

A.) Best looking handheld out there, PSP Go is hideous.

B.) You can choose how big a memory card you want to get -- meaning you get the best of both worlds. Download whatever, and still buy UMDs.

Honestly the PSP Go has nothing going for it AND it's hella more expensive.
PSP 3000 is the better choice.
i say get both! use the 3000 till the psp go comes out then you can just trade the psp 3000 in for a psp go everyone wins!

if you already have a PSP the GO is a waste of money... get a 3000, much better than the PSP GO
Get a 3000 ($170), buy a 16GB memory stick (~$65 or $25 for 8 GB)) and you have the same functionality as the GO for $15 less.

    Minuses- slightly larger

Pluses- plays UMD's, cheaper, bigger screen, you can trade in old games, you don't have to wait
Amen to this :) !
hi guys i want a psp so bad so should i wait till october or just buy me a psp 3000 in another way does the PSP go worth the waiting or not
do some research yourself, read the big 9 page+ official psp GO thread that is there in this forum, and decide for yourself. it's your money. even buying decisions need to be spoon fed these days...
Hello,I had the same question whether to get 3000 or Go and I think I'm going to get 3000 because the smaller size of Go isn't that important for me. Also, as long as I can get 8G or 16G memory stick for 3000 and assuming I can download games using 3000, 3000 seems fine with me too. However, I do have some consideration whether Go's quality, in terms of processor speed, screen quality etc, will be better. Any thoughts? thanks

And the control layout seems uncomfortable in the Go!...at least for me ahahha :P
i decided to forego the go lol i sold my psp 2001 to my cousin so im just waiting till august gametop is releasing a mystic silver psp with Dissidia, Final Fantasy along with a 2 gig mem stick and copy of advent children. I think its a good bundle and if i want the download only games ill geta bigger memory stick though im not sure how big a memory stick the 3000 vcan hold but a 32 gig would cost less than the go and give me more memory. I love the psp but the go is just not an option with all the new ps3 games coming out and i think it'll feel awkward to hold since its so small plus the first wave of psps always have technical issues so if i do eventually get one (after a hefty price drop) itll be after they've released 4 or 5 production cycles worth of them
the screen quality i think is better, but not that much
I don't think much is known about the relative screen quality at this point. Since they aren't really pushing it as one of the upgrades I don't think there will be much difference. (it will obviously look a bit sharper because it is smaller... a trade-off that might have been positive if PSP's native resolution was a lot smaller)
The screen resolution of the PSP Go is supposed to be the same as the 3000. The only difference is that the Go has a smaller screen since they made the whole handheld smaller.

I'd say get the 3000. Just look at this math:

Go: 250$ (by itself with only the main accessories: ac charger + usb cable. That's supposed to be the unbundled price)

    3000: 170$ + 2 8GB SDHC cards (13$ + 13$) + SDHC to pro duo adapter (14$) = 210$ (+ shipping since I used amazon for prices of the cards - about 15$) = 225$

lookie that, you still have 25$ left to buy games or accessories. Might even be cheaper if you looked at buy.com, sometimes they have better prices on cards and adapters.

    Go: downloadable games only

3000: UMD and downloadable games both work on this system.

3000 pwns. Only way Go would win is if you really cared that it was smaller (which some people do. Smaller is practical)

Edit: Just a side note. If you buy cards and adapters in stores instead of online, then the Go would be probably be cheaper. But that's why online shopping rocks.
actually it does allow for expandable memory, meaning your games can be transfered from one to another. Honestly they wouldn't be smart enough to make the console if this was one of the problems. You don't give them enough credit.
    Get the 3000.

    Suggestions/Recommendations for a Headse ...

I have the 3000 and I've been looking for a solid headset (preferably with a Mic) to match with it.

So far, I've not had any luck.

Do any of you have any recommendations? Either on what I might look into or what I should absolutely stay away from?

I've run into a lot of 2000-series of headsets from various manufacturers that claim that they are compatible with the 3000 but when I've tried them, they haven't worked.

    Thanks in advance!Suggestions/Recommendations for a Headse ...
The psp go has a headset that you can use with the psp 3000Suggestions/Recommendations for a Headse ...
A headset by definition has a mic... otherwise you would called them headphones... if headphones are okay, I have been happy with my Sennheiser PX 100. But if you're going to be outdoors in noisy areas a lot you might want some earbuds (personally don't like them--they're always falling out of my ears and jamming them in there for long periods of time just feels unhealthy to me.)
@ damann22: Thanks, I will go look into that. :)

@ jedinat: ... Yeah, so a headset is the combination of both. My bad! But yeah. In terms of headphones/earphones only, I have a decent over-the-ears headphones set that I use for just listening which I also use for my MD player. The headsets and earphones/earbuds sets that I've seen for the PSPs usually include a remote and, more importantly, the microphone that makes the headset a headset rather than plain 'phones. I don't use Skype on my PSP, but I use it fairly regularly on my PC, and it would be nice to use on my PSP, too, but... no headset. In terms of headphones versus earphones/earbuds, I definitely prefer the headphones myself because I dislike keeping something in my ear for too long, too. Thanks for the Sennheiser rec - I always like looking into good headphones. :)
I have always trusted and use my sony headphones; i currently have the Sony Dynamic stereo MDR-V150 model. They produce great sound quality, is light and you can find them pretty cheap.
