some games have infrastructure support which allows you to play over wifi, tough if you have aPS3 theres an app (official app, dont remember its name) that allows you to play any multiplayer game with anyone around the world....
The only downside of this app is that your ps3 needs to be using a wired internet connection as the wireless card is used to transfer data to your psp

And unless I've been looking in the wrong place of the NA store, it's only in the JP store.
